Setting Up and Marketing a Local Yoga Business: Intro to Free Course
The skills, training and experience that make for a good yoga, Pilates, personal training, karate, maths (or whatever) teacher rarely overlap with entrepreneurial business acumen. That’s why I put together a practical and easy-to-understand course designed to cover all the need-to-know aspects of how to set up and then market a local teaching business.
The entire course is free (my gift to you). And if you like it and would like me to teach a tailor-made workshop for you and other yoga teacher friends please get in touch. I’m available to teach workshops on teacher training courses or provide ad hoc support to new teachers needing a bit of help to get going.
The course is ideal for new teachers setting up a business for the first time or old hands who need to get up-to-speed with digital technologies. The contents are:
- Module 1 – Strategy
- Module 2 – Website
- Module 3 – Getting Local Search Right
- Module 4 – Search Engine Optimisation SEO
- Module 5 – Facebook and Other Social Media
- Module 6 – Free Promotion Opportunities
- Module 7 – Tools to Help You Run Your Business
- Module 8 – Communications Bonus Module – Taking Your Classes Online
What qualifies Marie to teach yoga teachers how to run a business?
Before I taught yoga I spent 30 years as a marketer working both in-house and in agencies before setting up several of my own businesses as well as doing consultancy and marketing training for other organisations. I have a full suite of qualifications including the CIM Professional Diploma, an MSc in Digital Marketing Communications and a PGCE in adult education.
When I started my yoga teacher training I realised that I possessed a set of knowledge and skills outside of Sanskrit, Asana and Pranayama that are invaluable for yoga teachers – the ability to set up and develop a sustainable business. Understanding how local search (Google My Business) works, knowing how to fully utilise the power of Facebook even when you don’t have a website, combining old school methods and new technologies to find and keep customers were all essential to the way I was able to go from newbie teacher to running eight profitable classes a week; all within a few months of graduation.
In my pre-yoga life I loved providing training whether face-to-face or online. I was a teacher and examiner for the Chartered Institute of Marketing, taught on a Masters in Digital Marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University and spoke at numerous conferences both in the UK and overseas. As a yoga teacher I’ve broadened my business training repertoire to include workshops and courses for yoga (and Pilates or other sports) professionals. I was commissioned by London Sport to run training and webinars for their members and developed a comprehensive course on setting up and running a local teaching business for the Digiterati Academy online training platform.
I’ve decided to make this course available free-of-charge to yoga teachers here on my yoga website. You’ll find links to the nine module course above.
